About the Retreat Home
To reach this secluded retreat, you’ll trek downhill for approximately 4 km from Kookal Village, located 30 km beyond Kodaikanal. Nestled in complete isolation, this offbeat location is far removed from the chaos and distractions of modern life. Whether that sounds like a blessing or a challenge, one thing is certain: The retreat space is completely off the grid. With no electricity and limited mobile network, our solar setup ensures basic lighting on most days. Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, from maintaining the environment to growing our own vegetables right here on the property.
This isn’t a commercial getaway—it’s a self-built retirement home, created out of passion and shared only with those who truly appreciate nature and outdoor living. If you’re seeking slow living, quiet moments, and a deeper connection with the Earth, this place will resonate with you. The accommodation is simple but spacious, with two shared bathroom. there are no private rooms, but you’ll have access to bunk beds, mats, and sleeping bags for a cozy stay.
In addition to the well-known Kookal or Thoothur waterfalls, which are currently restricted by the forest department, we have access to numerous secluded waterfalls—hidden gems not visible on social media and untouched by the general public. Our retreat home sits amidst a carpet of mountains and the wilderness of a tiger reserve and wildlife sanctuaries, with a river flowing right next to the home. With zero light pollution, this spot is perfect for stargazing and witnessing fireflies on most nights. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot wild animals from the comfort of the house, making it an unforgettable experience in nature’s lap
There’s no hot water facility for bathing. Visit to waterfalls is subject to climate and situation. Strictly NO loud music, SMOKING, ALCOHOL, WEED, MUSHROOM or any illegal substances. Everyone’s safety and well being is our priority, considering the remote and secluded location of abode.
Descent: Around 1.5 – 2 hours (village to Retreat house)
Ascent: Approximately 2 – 3 hours (retreat house to village)
This is a moderate to difficult hike, with very few flat trails. Trail is of dirt track, off road kind. Most part of the trail is uphill with climb / descent, steep sections of uneven trails, filled with stones and pebbles, which gets more slippery during rains.
Please note this trek is definitely not for faint hearted / physically weak / obese people. Recommended only to those with some sort of physical activity and routine on regular basis.

Abode’s location – 1350 meters
No bonfire 🔥 as we have forest around, and wildlife. So don’t want to disturb their privacy.
